HLGR Shareholder William F. Gary Featured in NETFLIX Documentary Series

Harrang Long Gary Rudnick, P.C. (HLGR) is proud of William F. Gary, a firm shareholder and Chair of its Board of Directors, who was featured in the recent Netflix documentary series, Wild Wild Country.

The six-part series tells the incredible story of the Rajneeshpuram community that was established outside Antelope, Oregon, in the 1980s and was intended to be a utopian society for the followers of the group’s leader, Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh. In addition to chronicling the fascinating story of the cult, it also addresses an important period of Oregon history and the complicated legal and political issues that surrounded the rise and fall of Rajneeshpuram.

Mr. Gary was the Deputy Attorney General (second in command of the Oregon Department of Justice) during the cult’s rise and was interviewed extensively by filmmakers regarding the DOJ’s response to the complex legal issues that arose as Rajneeshpuram grew to thousands of people, much to the dismay of the locals in Antelope and Central Oregon. Ultimately, cult members were implicated in the poisoning and harassment of local citizens, the attempted assassinations of law enforcement leaders and state politicians, and  other serious crimes.
